Job Description

Under general supervision, the Pool Coordinator is responsible for implementing specific aquatic programs as assigned. Employee has supervisory responsibilities for the actions, job performance, supervision and monitoring of all assigned employees and programs. Employee prepares standard routine reports and records. Job involves decision-making which require sound interpretation and mature judgment. Employee provides continuous service to the public frequently involving sensitive matters that demand the utmost tact, courtesy and resourcefulness. Employee has full responsibility for directing, assisting and evaluating job performance of one or more employees.

Job Responsibilities

1. Keeps and maintains records of all participants.
2. Keeps and maintains personnel records (i.e. good/bad work, tardy/no show, accidents reports, etc.)
3. Assigns staff duties and responsibilities.
4. Prepares and follows lesson plans.
5. Helps prepare programs and staff schedules.
6. Accomplishes programs while still keeping it fun for participants.
7. Keeps pool area neat and clean.
8. Thinks and promotes "safety" at all times.
9. Promotes good public relations on behalf of the City of McAllen wherever possible.
10. Assists in meeting overall program objectives, safety and quality.
11. Great customer service skills and able to deal with difficult and emergency situations effectively.
12. Assists the Superintendent of Aquatics in any phase of swimming pool operation and other related tasks as

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements - 1. Open to applicants 18 years of age or older.
2. Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent.
3. Must have completion of at least (1) semester (12 hrs. minimum) of college credit.
4. Must present certificate and have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, current
American Red Cross Standard First Aid – with a minimum of two (2) years in aquatics leadership position such as a pool manager, lifeguard, swim instructor, coach, etc.
5. Must be knowledgeable and capable of properly using cash register, safety whistle, swim suit and various office equipment associated with the operation of swimming pools.
6. Must be in good or excellent physical condition, mobile and agile.
7. Must have a current physical examination by a physician, attesting to good uncorrected vision and normal
8. Must be alert, active, responsible and mature individual.
9. Must exhibit special leadership qualities and ability to work with superiors as well as subordinates.
10. Must be able to promote good public relations for the City.
11. Must be able to meet the public in a courteous manner, using tact and diplomacy.
12. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification Preferred.
13. Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) Preferred.
14. Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license.

Physical Requirements

Employee works outdoors with unusual hours or shifts and is on call (waiting to be engaged to work) when not on
duty. Work involves sitting, standing and swimming and demands physical strength and agility normally associated
with superior swimming. Employee is exposed to hazards which might result in burning of the skin. Work involves
normal weather changes. Additional job physical demands are available.

Additional Information

1. This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.
2. This position has supervisory responsibilities.
3. This is a part-time seasonal position. The length of employment will be determined by the program's success in attracting participants and providing services. If the program fails to enroll enough participants to justify cost, the program, at that individual site, will be cancelled, and those personnel terminated or reassigned to another location.
